Today has been quite a run around. My Oncologist told me I had to get a tooth that had broken in my mouth pulled. My Son got me an appointment with a dental group that took a group discount plan we purchased. My daughter and I left a bit after 8 A.M. to drive about 30 minutes to my appointment. We got there and filled out the paperwork. Now, here is the catch…they told my son that I could get the tooth pulled for anywhere from $69.00 to $150.00 and if it was more I could to a payment plan. The story was so different when we got there. There was a $46.00 fee just to see the doctor, then X-rays and then the extraction. My daughter explained what we are having financial problems. They agreed to let me see the Dentist and let us discuss my issues. He ended up telling me that with the Cancer and my health he said I need to see an oral surgeon. Our “dental discount plan” only had a few places and the places they called only had an oral surgeon in a month. We finally worked with the Dentist and he waved the consult and only charged for X-rays. After the X-rays, he said I needed 4 teeth pulled. We had to explain repeatedly that the Oncologist said only one before Chemo. Two hours later we left with X-rays and a referral for four teeth to be extracted. Of course we are only going to do one, and he charged me $54.00.
My son and daughter had to call around and my son finally found a place an hour away for tomorrow. It is going to cost $251.00 for the extraction and that is a “simple extraction” which means to anesthesia. We did not know how to pay for this, so we ended up selling some jewelry, which only ended up being $54.00. Ironically that replaced the X-ray fees, which was strange how the amounts were exact. To pay the extraction my son and daughter are working it out for me. I must tell you…Do not procrastinate on getting dental work done. I am a classic example of not getting work done due to financial problems and look at me know. Even my daughter has an abscess and cannot afford to take care of it. Our health can be at risk with bad teeth so…Get to the Dentist. Oh, what fun for tomorrow.
I had a bit more energy today and even sat with my daughter at the DMV for two hours while she waited to see if she could get more time to pay her smog and DMV fees. No luck. One day at time, and I know that, but we got cranky with each other as I was telling her she needs to pay all the bills. I forget, she is already working two jobs to pay the mortgage, try to pay her bills and more. My son is struggling to make ends meat and does all he can. Times are not good for anyone. It just sucks to be a senior and not have back up money saved. That is another thing to anyone who reads this, the “rainy days” do come and the “golden years” aren’t so golden. When you look back at your life, planning for old age is really important. I never expected to live on such a small income when I got older. I expect to get healthy and find financial freedom. My daughter and son keep telling me positive with every aspect of life. As my daughter reminds me, life is a gift each and everyday. If you have your health the rest will follow.
My son told me some tips he heard on the Dr. Oz show today. My cancer, which is peritoneal cancer, acts a lot like ovarian cancer. Dr. Oz said that preventative foods for Ovarian is to eat half a cup of red onion everyday (raw if possible), 2 six ounce servings of Mediterranean Sea Bass weekly and 2 cups of endive twice a week. Of course, I am going to add that into my diet. Speaking of my diet, my mouth has been so sore; I had a milk shake today. It seems to make me feel good. Not the best thing for you, but you can sprinkle flax powder or add protein powder, vitamins, fruit and more to make it more nutritious for you. It is also good to be sure to eat enough protein for muscle mass and energy, I have heard that if you eat protein such as meats, eggs or cheese, with each meal it will boost your energy levels.
I am always looking for healthy eating tips and herbal supplements, and will post tips I am trying and hope they will help all of us to live a healthier life. By the way when we were driving around in the evening we saw two gorgeous horses on a hillside with the evening sky-just breathtaking. Don’t forget to look around and appreciate all of life.
